By looking to the development of digital tools, the ability to share content such as lesson plans has never been easier.  As part of what it means to effectively share resources, the  USA Department of Education launched in 2015 the #GoOpen initiative and  began its Open Educational Resource (OER) journey. There are many benefits to using OER, including: increases in equity of resources, relevant and high-quality content, potential to save money, and empowerment of teachers. This panel discussion will provide examples of pre-service teachers learning about OER at the University of Alberta, the experiences of Washington state as a leader in K-12 OER, and an overview of how forward-looking leadership includes  OER and open pedagogy.
